Species interactions and human influence
Three other species a jaguar may interact with include deer, cattle and alligators. The type of interactions that a jaguar has with these three other species are when these animals are seen as prey to this predator. Overall, jaguars have a large variety of prey, giving them more oportunities to find energy. However some prey can end up as a downfall to the jaguar population size and growth. An example of the species listed is cattle, which are usually owned by farmers. In January 2001, ranchers claimed that jaguars were killing their cattle. They came up with a conclusion to start hunting jaguars and to kill them. This has been happening previous years, and it still happens today. This affects the growth and the population size of jaguars negatively being one of the highest reasons that they are endangered.
Human influences include overhunting and habitat loss, which have these rare cats listed as threatened or endangered almost everywhere they call home. Mines, farms, ranches, towns, roads and many more are increasingly being built in areas important to jaguar survival. They destroy the jaguar habitats, giving them no place to live. The number of jaguars has decreased rapidly over the last 100 years due to this. Jaguars are also frequently being killed by poachers for their beautiful coats, or by farmers to protect their domestic stock.
